Thanksgiving at The Sunset Table

My Thanksgiving side dish recipes, tried and tested year after year, plus a printable planning packet with a menu planner, shopping list, prep timeline, and cooking schedule.

I’ve hosted Thanksgiving at my house since 2013, with about twenty people around the table each year. It’s the one American holiday we don’t adapt to our Cuban cuisine. We embrace the classics, with a little Southern influence and our own favorites in the mix. These sides have earned their place on the menu through years of rave reviews from the people I get to give thanks with every year.

Make Ahead

Wednesday night is prep night. I trim the green beans, chop the onions, halve the Brussels sprouts, roast the sweet potatoes, and shred all the cheeses. I also slice the potatoes and keep them covered in water in the fridge. Getting this done means less chopping and more cooking on Thanksgiving.

Plan the Oven

I have one oven, so the air fryer and slow cooker earn their keep on Thanksgiving. The creamed corn goes in the slow cooker, and I prefer the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer. That leaves more oven space for the casseroles and potatoes.

Finish & Serve

We’re a dinner family, so Thanksgiving dinner is at 6 p.m. Mac and cheese and potatoes au gratin come out of the oven right before we eat, while the other sides stay warm in the steam table. Then we carve the turkey together. That’s part of the experience at my house.
