I’ve visited 29 countries, if you count Vatican City as a country. I do. My goal is to visit 40 countries before I turn 40, so I still have a few more places to go.

I grew up traveling with my family, but in 2014 I started traveling on my own. Back then, I wasn’t thinking about itineraries, taking detailed notes, or documenting trips with a future travel site in mind, was just experiencing them. Some of those earlier trips live more in my memories and photos than in anything I could turn into an honest guide today.

I usually choose my next destination based on what makes sense for the time of year and how much I can experience in about two weeks without compromising the quality of the trip. I love destinations that can be paired naturally with other places, and weather is a big factor. I try to follow the seasons, so later in the year I might look toward South America, where it’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

Not generally. I wouldn’t consider myself a solo traveler by any means. Even though most of my travel photos are of just me, I’m rarely actually traveling alone.

The 2 AM Epilogue is a collection of essays from different points in my life and throughout my travels. Each one captures how I felt in a particular moment. Together, they’re the invisible thread connecting one period of my life to another. They belong here because The Sunset Table is as much about the life happening around the places I’ve been as it is about the places themselves.

The Favorites is basically my brain dump after the fact. It’s where I share the things I’ve genuinely enjoyed, from travel favorites and places I’ve loved to books, music, and whatever else I’m into at the moment. It’s our little lifestyle corner of The Sunset Table, and it goes both ways. You can share your favorites too, so I have something new to try.

Yes. Almost everything you see here was taken by me with my iPhone. Part of what I want The Sunset Table to feel like is approachable. You don’t need high-tech gear to travel well or come home with great photos you’re excited to share. If a photo wasn’t taken by me or on my phone, I’ll always disclose it. This site is about authentic travel for curious minds, not perfect production.

Generally, I’m chasing somewhere new, but I definitely revisit places. I’ve been to China twice and somehow ended up at the Great Wall both times. I’ve visited the Dominican Republic three times, Mexico four times, and Canada, Italy, and Switzerland twice each. A country is more than one city, and sometimes one trip barely scratches the surface. There’s always another city to explore, something you missed the first time, or a reason to go back.

Great question. If I make it, then 50 before 50! The number gives me something fun to work toward, but the real goal is to see and experience as much of the world as I can while I’m able. Life is unpredictable, and there’s still so much I want to see, from national parks and natural wonders to cities and places I haven’t even thought of yet.

The Sunset Table is my idea of us sitting somewhere beautiful and debriefing about life. Sometimes it’s a table for one, and sometimes it’s a table for many. Either way, we’re sitting there looking toward the future while laughing about the past. Life is chaotic and unpredictable, with plenty of twists and turns, but eventually we all need a moment to sit down, take it in, and think about where we’ve been and where we’re going. And hopefully, when you do, there’s a sunset in front of you.
