Three days in the Interlaken region gives you enough time for its biggest experiences without constantly changing hotels. I stayed in lakeside Iseltwald, then used public transportation to reach Interlaken and the surrounding mountain villages.
DAY 1
~5:00 PM
Arrive in Iseltwald + Check-in
Continue from Interlaken to Iseltwald and settle into your lakeside accommodation.
~6:00 PM
Explore Iseltwald
Walk through the village, along the Lake Brienz waterfront, and around the wooden pier and castle viewpoints.
~7:30 PM
Dinner by Lake Brienz
Keep the first evening relaxed and enjoy the quiet lakeside setting.
DAY 2
~8:00 AM
Bus from Iseltwald to Interlaken
The bus connection is straightforward and makes Iseltwald an easy lakeside base.
~9:00 AM
Breakfast at Hapimag Resort Interlaken
Have breakfast before the morning’s main adventure.
10:30 AM
Paragliding Check-in + Briefing
Meet at the paragliding office for a short safety briefing, then board the small shuttle to the mountain launch point.
~11:00 AM–1:00 PM
Paragliding Over Interlaken
The complete experience takes approximately 2½ hours, including transportation, preparation, the flight, and landing back in Interlaken.
~1:30 PM
Lunch + Walk Through Interlaken
Take a break after landing and explore the center of town before heading into the mountains again.
~3:00 PM
Harder Kulm
Take the funicular to the viewpoint for panoramic views over Interlaken, Lake Thun, and Lake Brienz. I have also hiked up during winter, but the funicular is the better choice after paragliding. Allow about 2½ hours to hike up, depending on your pace.
~5:00 PM
Hike Back Down
I hiked down on both visits. Wear proper shoes and allow enough daylight for the descent.
~7:30 PM
Return to Iseltwald + Dinner at Restaurant Dorfpintli
Take the bus back to Iseltwald and finish the day with home-style Swiss food at this warm, family-run neighborhood restaurant.
DAY 3
~8:00 AM
Travel to Lauterbrunnen
Take the bus from Iseltwald to Interlaken Ost, then continue by train to Lauterbrunnen.
~9:30 AM
Explore Lauterbrunnen
Walk through the village surrounded by green mountains, traditional chalets, and waterfalls cascading from the cliffs.
~10:30 AM
Trümmelbach Falls
Head inside the mountain to see the powerful glacial waterfalls hidden within the rock.
~12:30 PM
Cable Car + Mountain Train to Mürren
Ride above the valley for expansive views of the surrounding peaks and villages.
~1:30 PM
Fondue Lunch in Mürren
Stop for traditional Swiss fondue before exploring the car-free mountain village.
~3:30 PM
Travel to Grindelwald
Return toward Lauterbrunnen and take the train to Grindelwald for another change of alpine scenery.
~4:30 PM
Explore Grindelwald
Walk through the village and take in some of the day’s most impressive mountain views.
~6:30 PM
Return to Iseltwald
Travel back by train and bus for a relaxed final evening beside Lake Brienz.
DEPARTURE MORNING
~8:00 AM
Breakfast + Check-out
Have breakfast, check out of your lakeside stay, and travel from Iseltwald to Interlaken Ost.
~9:30 AM
Store Luggage at Interlaken Ost
Use the station’s self-service luggage lockers. The process is easy and lets you enjoy the lake without carrying your bags.
~10:00 AM
Lake Brienz Boat Ride
Enjoy one last round of lake and mountain views before heading onward. Choose a sailing that leaves enough time to collect your luggage and catch your train.
Early Afternoon
Collect Luggage + Continue by Train
Return to Interlaken Ost, retrieve your luggage, and board the train to your next destination.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where I Stayed
Hotel Chalet du Lac
Hotel Chalet du Lac is not luxurious, but its location is hard to beat. Our room had a balcony overlooking the lake, which made waking up and winding down feel special every day. The hotel also has a lively restaurant with good drinks, and the hostel next door has an outdoor patio that brings energy to an otherwise peaceful block.
What impressed me most were the practical details. There was a guest laundry room, which rescued an outfit after I spilled red wine on it and still planned to repeat it during the next leg of my trip. The bus stop was also within walking distance, making it easy to reach central Interlaken without sacrificing the calm of staying in Iseltwald.
My verdict: Simple, practical, beautifully located, and absolutely somewhere I would stay again.

GETTING THERE
Train fare varies by origin
A note on the budget: The hotel price is per room, while the food and attraction costs are per person. Breakfast and long-distance train travel are not included. We chose sit-down meals, so food costs could be reduced with bakeries, cafés, grocery stores, and casual options. Local buses were included with the visitor pass provided by the hotel.
Waterfall admission and mountain transportation are additional.
Tips Before You Go
BOOK THE ADVENTURE EARLY
Reserve paragliding before your trip, but keep the itinerary flexible. Paragliding sessions depend on mountain weather and may need to be rescheduled.
ASK FOR THE VISITOR PASS
Hotel Chalet du Lac provided us with a visitor pass that included local buses between Iseltwald and Interlaken. Ask about it when you check in.
PACK FOR EVERY FORECAST
Mountain weather can change quickly, even during summer. Bring layers, comfortable walking shoes, and a lightweight waterproof jacket.
START DAY THREE EARLY
Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, and Grindelwald can fit into one day, but only if you begin early and keep moving.
USE THE STATION LOCKERS
Interlaken Ost has easy self-service luggage lockers, which allowed us to take a Lake Brienz boat ride before continuing by train.
BUDGET FOR FOOD
Sit-down meals are expensive. Use bakeries, cafés, and grocery stores if you want to reduce the cost without sacrificing the experiences.
Next Time
Three days gave me a taste of the region, but definitely didn’t finish the job. These are the experiences I would add and the changes I would make next time.
I DIDN’T GET TO → Things I’ll make time for on my next trip.
- Jungfraujoch
- Grindelwald-First Cliff Walk
- Grindelwald-First gondola
ON MY LIST → Things recommended or saved for next time.
- Oeschinensee
- Hike to Lake Bachalpsee
- A full hiking day around Grindelwald
I’D DO DIFFERENTLY → Things I’d change with the benefit of hindsight.
- Stay six days instead of three
- Give Grindelwald its own full day
- Leave a flexible day for mountain weather
